From one culture to another...
It's time for another day. A grand adventure in the eyes of Mini-Pete, Charlie and Tiger. We have been in Colombia for four days now. It's a lovely place and I believe Kimia is going to love it here. Her Spanish is a little rusty, and that's an understatement, but over time and with patience, she will catch on. The first day, Serina took us to Ladies Bible Study, all in Spanish. Thankfully we are dogs and a wild cat, so we didn't have to try to talk, but Kimia on the other hand...that's an entire different story. She communicated as best as she could, and did well. We love traveling with Kimia. We get to go to some great places, but most importantly we are always safe in her little purse.
The second day here, Monique and Serina took Kimia to get her apply for her Cedula, which is a Colombian ID card. They left at 8am arrived in Bogota around 9ish and made it to the immigration office by 9:30. Once Kimia filled out her paperwork, she stood in line to get approved to go up stairs to only wait in line again. She waited a very long time, two and a half hours. Once she was called and her info was processed she waited again for a photo, then she had to walk to the bank a few blocks away to pay for it, walk back to immigration present a receipt and get it stamped. Kimia is now approved for her cedula, however she will have to go back to Bogota to get it in a couple weeks.
According to Mo and Serina, Kimia was the fastest yet to get out of the immigration office. Three hours here is fast....how the USA views time is so different than Colombia time.
This is where we are staying. It's a great little house in a great conjunto. Praying Kimia finds a house in this conjunto in the next few months. Three bedrooms upstairs and a full bath, with a small kitchen, dining room and living room , and half bath down stairs with a big closed in patio where storage is and laundry. It's very nice. Right out side our house is the park. It's the place where we all gather and hang out.
One day Monique and Kimia went to Central Chia to look for a few things, and guess what Kimia found....If you know Kimia, the Nutella and chocolate chips are not going to last long:) There is quite a bit of Gluten free stuff here and it just made Kimia's day:)
Most every where we go, we go by foot or by bus, sometimes we catch a ride with a friend like we did when we went to the football game. We went to go and support one of the missionaries who is playing on an American Football team. It was his first game and we were his fan club. His team won. After the first play, everything stopped and pictures were taken of the two teams. And then it started again.
Where is Mini Pete? |
On Sunday, the church gave Kimia surprise welcome party. It was so sweet. She had plenty of opportunities to use her not so good Spanish, but hey it all starts with practice right? Before you know it, she will be speaking well. Just you wait...one of these posts will be in Spanish:)
Today is another beautiful day! Sun is peaking through the clouds. It's wonderful. The weather is great, and today we are having a party. A BBQ here in our conjunto. We have around 47 young adults coming from church. It's gonna be great. Bright blue skies unless it's raining, and beautiful flowers in bloom.
This is the day the Lord has made.
Let us rejoice and be glad in it.
