Mini-Pete goes to the Calvary Museum

Image
As you walk along the street, there's dogs, and some big ones compared to me, I am just so thankful to be in Kimia's purse.  Often times she leaves in her purse for days!  But when she gets me out to explore, it's amazing!  One amazing event I went to was the Calvary museum at church. As we walked up the stairs there were covered with palm branches, there was a sign that said Jerusalem ahead, and there with letters all around.  We unscrambled the words and it spelled Hosanna.  When Jesus came into Jerusalem, he was on a colt, many put branches or their cloaks on the road before him, and shouted:  "Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.  Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!  Hosanna in the highest heavens." As we followed the sign we came to Jerusalem and went to Lazarus's house.  There were remembered what happened before Jesus came to Jerusalem.  We read that Jesus had dinner with his disciples at Lazarus's house and

An Asado...what we would call a BBQ

Image
Bright blue skies, barely a cloud to be seen and the sun shining made it a perfect day to host an Asado yesterday in our conjunto.  An asado is not just a small event, it's important to have all the main food such as steak, sausages, and morcilla (blood sausage), boiled potatoes and guacamole, grilled plátano (plantains), grilled maíz en la marozca (corn on the cob).  It's amazing food! Many hands make for light work! Delicioso! The kids enjoying the food! When you have an asado, it's an all day event, with food never ending.  There were over 50 people who came.  All young adults, single and married, from church and the community.  It was so much fun.  My day was filled with working on my Spanish...and laughing at my self when I couldn't figure out what was said and how to say something.   Making friends I had the opportunity to teach the game Spot It.  It was a great way to work on Spanish vocabulary and a way for our friends to work on t

From one culture to another...

It's time for another day.  A grand adventure in the eyes of Mini-Pete, Charlie and Tiger.  We have been in Colombia for four days now.  It's a lovely place and I believe Kimia is going to love it here.  Her Spanish is a little rusty, and that's an understatement, but over time and with patience, she will  catch on.  The first day, Serina took us to Ladies Bible Study, all in Spanish.  Thankfully we are dogs and a wild cat, so we didn't have to try to talk, but Kimia on the other hand...that's an entire different story.  She communicated as best as she could, and did well.  We love traveling with Kimia.  We get to go to some great places, but most importantly we are always safe in her little purse. The second day here, Monique and Serina took Kimia to get her apply for her Cedula, which is a Colombian ID card.  They left at 8am arrived in Bogota around 9ish and made it to the immigration office by 9:30.  Once Kimia filled out her paperwork, she stood in line

Tiger searches for Mini-Pete and Charlie

The day before I left, I was in panic mode, not because I didn't have everything in order, but because I couldn't find Mini- Pete.  Many of you may not know who Mini-Pete is, so I'll tell you about him.  Mini-Pete is a small ceramic yellow lab dog, that was given to me back in 2010.  He has become my travel companion when I travel abroad, and I haven't gone anywhere without him, so as you could imagine, I was very concerned.  He has been on some great adventures and the reality of not having him with me was sad.  To put my mind at ease, I quickly decided to find another traveling buddy for the time being, and now let me introduce you to Tiger. Tiger is from the tiny village of Laytonsville.  He loves to search for things, and when He heard that Mini-Pete and Charlie went missing, He couldn't pass up the opportunity to help search for them.  So, his story begins at the BWI airport, waiting to get a ticket.  It's very nerve racking when you arrive at the ai

Today is the the day!

My emotions are soaring rather high, there are butterflies in my stomach, and I am so excited to be stepping out in faith as I pursue a dream, my dream and desire of doing mission work abroad.  I am honored and privileged to be working with such an awesome mission organization Camino Global, and team in Colombia. Over the past several months, I have seen God work in so many ways, from providing ministry and prayer partners, to places to stay while I wasn't working, to a buyer for my car and a car to borrow.  It's been  such an amazing time watching God work and being a part of that and I am looking forward to seeing Him work in and through me in Colombia. Today, I set out for that adventure, God willing all goes well as the airport. Many years ago I came across this song from a group called 4Him, called Who You Are .   This song reminds me that, in my life, I want to honor the Lord, glorify him in all I do, and I can't do that with out Him.  He is constantly changing m

Fun in February

Sometimes there is so much going on, I think there is no way I can do this at this time, but when I stop and notice there is time, it's always fun to be spontaneous and surprise the people you love most, family.  After 12hrs on the road, I finally showed up on the doorstep of my sister's house.  With the door open, jaws dropped, and laughter, I believe my surprise was successful!   Aunt Mimi with Grace, Nathan and Emily!  Other fun news for February...I finished my Bible Classes and ordered my one way ticket to Colombia!!   As I prepare to leave, I am continually reminded how the Lord goes before me, how He is my provider, how much He loves me.  He is the reason I do what I do and love what I do, and in all I do I want to honor Him.  Be Thou my Vision   Be Thou my vision,  O Lord of my heart;  Naught be all else to me,  save that Thou art  Thou my best thought,  by day or by night,  Waking or sleeping,  Thy presence my light.  Be Thou my
