Bright blue skies, barely a cloud to be seen and the sun shining made it a perfect day to host an Asado yesterday in our conjunto. An asado is not just a small event, it's important to have all the main food such as steak, sausages, and morcilla (blood sausage), boiled potatoes and guacamole, grilled plátano (plantains), grilled maíz en la marozca (corn on the cob). It's amazing food!

The kids enjoying the food! |
When you have an asado, it's an all day event, with food never ending. There were over 50 people who came. All young adults, single and married, from church and the community. It was so much fun. My day was filled with working on my Spanish...and laughing at my self when I couldn't figure out what was said and how to say something.

Making friends |
I had the opportunity to teach the game Spot It. It was a great way to work on Spanish vocabulary and a way for our friends to work on their English. This game was a big hit, we had a ton of fun and laughed a lot.

Hours of fun playing Spot It. |
We also played a couple Colombian games which were so much fun! Of course when everything is explained it is in Spanish, so as you could imagine, I was a bit confused...but I caught on quickly. Serina was kind enough to help translate for me in English. I enjoyed the game, great people makes for great fun.

Team 2 won this round! That's my team:) |

The last game we played as a group was Charades. The Colombians play Movie Charades...If you know me well, you know I don't know movies... I was very thankful I wasn't called:) |
Once people started to leave, we started a game of basketball. It was so much fun. Let's just say it's going to take some time getting used to the altitude here, 8500ft is so much higher than I'm used too:) The game was a blast.

Many who came to the Asado. |
Monique and Serina hosted an amazing day, and I am so glad to have been a part of it. There is so much to learn about the culture and language and I am excited to be here. We look forward to having more of these events in the future. Next time my Spanish will be much better...
