Time to Remember
On the shore looking out at the barges waiting to pass through the Canal |
Dear Friends,
It’s rather hard to believe that four months ago I left the
states to pursue a dream that God put on my heart years ago, the desire to be a
missionary. It’s funny how often times
I have my own plan and think one way, and then of course the Lord has other
plans for me and changes everything.
Here I thought I’d be in Colombia South Amercia, yet God has me in Costa
Rica learning Spanish and waiting on Him for the next steps. Waiting on HIM…I have to be honest…I have a
hard time with waiting, but at the end of the day I know it’s the best
thing.
Rest has many meanings: to sleep, relief from worries, or
even mental and spiritual calmness. To
be honest, sometimes my mind is not at rest, however lately God has been teaching me how
important it is to REST in HIM, to TRUST
in HIM, to REMEMBER all that HE has done, and ALL that HE IS. As I have been resting in His Word, the song Jesus I am resting, resting came to my mind
and these words spoke to my heart.
Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus,
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love, so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart,
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies its every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings,
Thine is love indeed
As I was in Panama City, Panama, last month for a visa
renewal, I had the opportunity to see the Panama Canal and learn about its
history. One morning walking along the
shore near our hotel, I looked out across the ocean and saw more than a dozen
barges lined up waiting their turn to pass through the canal. (In the picture
above, you can see the barges in the ocean.)
It takes time, but it’s worth it for the ships and much safer than going
around Cape Horn in dangerous waters. In
the same way, it’s worth every minute of my day to be patient, to trust and to
rest in the safety of my Lord. It’s not
always easy when the unknown is not clear, but there is joy in finding the
greatness of our Lord in that time.
Jesus!
I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out the greatness
Of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee,
And Thy beauty fills my soul,
For, by Thy transforming power,
Thou hast made me whole.
Resting in HIM
