Where are you from?

Where ever you go, there is always one question people ask, and it's my least favorite, "Where are you from?"  I was blessed as a child to experience different culture, but also blessed to live in several areas, however when it is time to answer this question, I know what comes next.  After I say, I am from Maryland, the next question is,  "Is that where you grew up?"  Now this could get into a pretty long story, so I try to my best to start at the beginning to how I ended up in Maryland.  A very simple question can end up being a very long story.

Now the story continues.  My home is in Colombia.  I can't say I am from Colombia, no one will believe me, with blonde hair and bright blue eyes, but for a couple years and God willing more, this is where I will l be.  And even if I moved back to the states, I have the freedom to live anywhere...and then the question would be asked again, and I'd have to include Colombia.

I have enjoyed being here in Colombia.  There is no way  I am going to understand the culture in a couple years, it will take a life time to learn.  However, what I have learned and have enjoyed.

One thing that will take me sometime getting used to is having my nails done. Here is the design I chose.  Thankfully it's not that expensive and there are two precious little twin girls who want to do my nails also, which means... time to go in and get them done again:)  I may never have to buy nail polish.  Fun and Spunky, that's me.

I also love to walk everywhere...there is public transportation for a few places that are farther to walk, but most everything is near by.  Right across the street is where I do most my shopping.  The produce and meat is so cheap and fresh!!  Oh the fresh fruit is great!  Zapote-  it's a different and has an interesting flavour and I like it.  And because I like it, my friend says I am already Colombian.  She says you can't be Colombian if you don't like Zapote. Another interesting fruit I like is Granadilla- you make a hole in the fruit and use a spoon and eat out the seeds.  Hmm it's good.   There are still several fruits I haven't eaten and hope to try and some that are used mainly for juice.    My favorite fruits are Mango, Papaya, and small bananas.   This I can get used to.

So the next time someone asks you where you are from, if it takes you a while to answer, be thankful for your experiences, don't shy away, it's who you are, it's part of your story, we all have a story to tell.    I am so thankful for what I have experienced in different cultures, it has given me a greater understanding of the world around me and a desire to see more.  "Where are you from?" may not be my favorite question to answer, yet again, I don't know what my favorite question is , so I might as well answer it.
