Hymn time

I am so thankful I grew up singing hymns.  My favorite hymn as a child was Blessed Assurance Jesus is Mine.  I think this is the first hymn I actually remember singing and so it became my favorite.  Anytime there was a hymn sing at church, you could only imagine what I wanted to sing.  As I grew older, I started to enjoy other hymns just as much, such as Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing, Great is Thy Faithfulness, Be Thou my Vision, Day by Day, How Great Thou Art, Take my Life and Let it Be, There is Power in the Blood and When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.  My list could on and on.

To me, I feel as if hymns are full of truth.  It is not always the music that captivates me, but the words are what really grab my attention.  It is nice to have music go along with a song, but it isn't always necessary.  One of my favorite hymns I have been listening to lately is Jesus I am resting, words were written by Jean Sophia Piggot.    Take a moment and read this song, you can find it on youtube also, done in different styles, I prefer the one done by Indelible Grace.

Jesus I am Resting
 Jesus I am resting, resting
In the joy of what Thou art,
I am finding out the great
of they loving heart
Thou has bid me gaze upon Thee
And Thy beauty fills my soul
For by Thy transforming power
Thou has made me whole

Jesus, I am resting, resting,
In the Joy of what Thou art;
I am finding out they greatness
Of Thy loving heart.

O, how great Thy loving kindness,
Vaster, broader than the sea!
O, how marvelous Thy goodness,
Lavished all on me!
Yes, I rest in Thee Beloved,
Know what death of grace is Thine,
Know Thy certainty of promise,
And have made it mine

Simply trusting Thee, Lord Jesus
I behold Thee as Thou art,
And Thy love so pure, so changeless,
Satisfies my heart;
Satisfies its deepest longings,
Meets, supplies it's every need,
Compasseth me round with blessings;
Thine is love indeed!

Ever lift Thy face upon me
As I work and wait for Thee;
Resting 'neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus,
Earth's dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father's glory
Sunshine of my Father's face,
Keep me ever trusting, resting
Fill me with Thy grace.

This song has spoken to me so much lately.  There are moments with moving around so much that I feel unsettled, like a nomad, but at the end of the day, what really matters is that I find my rest in Jesus and not in the things of this world.  He is the Giver of life, and I find great joy in trusting in him!  He is my faithful provider, and satisfies my every need!  I am reminded that my joy comes from the Lord, and that I may not have an earthy home right now and hopefully soon I will have a place I call home, but even when I do, I know it's temporary for my home is in Eternity with Jesus!  As I cling to His Word and grow deeper in love with my Savior, I find rest in Him, even with all the chaos around me.
